Year–end ice climbing retreat

mid. Dec end. Dec 2025 // Valais, CH

Join me for the advanced waterfall ice climbing retreat in Zermatt. Explore the technical aspects of ice climbing, refine your skills, and tackle more demanding routes together with me. Enjoy the delightful experiences the Zermatt village offers during the holiday season—a perfect end to the year’s adventures.

Delve deep into ice climbing techniques, including efficient tool placements, precise footwork, and advanced rope work. Learn advanced safety protocols for navigating the frozen terrain, and explore a range of challenging waterfall ice routes, each with its unique character and level of difficulty.

Ready for an icy adventure? Don’t forget to jazz up those crampons and ice axes! Set yourself for a chilly retreat full of fun and thrilling climbs.

Alternative locations: Val d’Anniviers, Val d’Hérémence, and/or Saastal.

Day 1: We’ll meet at the village and follow a hidden path by a small river to reach our first climbing spot, offering different lines to begin with. We’ll start by learning the ice climbing techniques, how to use crampons and climb in different ways, parallel and diagonal. Once we feel comfortable, we’ll move on to placing ice screws and making Abalakov anchors.

Day 2 and 3: We’ll hike a bit higher up to reach a stunning waterfall with multiple sections, of a three to four pitches high. We’ll practice what we’ve learned on the first day and then shift our focus to multipitch climbing. We will master belaying techniques, building secure stations with ice screws, and climb up to the top of the waterfall.
