The Haute Route in the Urner Alps is a classic 5-6 day ski touring traverse offering breathtaking alpine scenery and challenging steep descents—a dream adventure for passionate ski mountaineers.
The journey begins in the picturesque town of Andermatt, nestled in the heart of the Swiss Alps, and makes its way towards the freeriding paradise of Engelberg (optional via the demanding Voralp Variant). This intimate hut-to-hut alpine crossing showcases the best of Central Switzerland’s terrain.
Experience the satisfaction of long ascents on sun-kissed south-facing slopes, followed by exhilarating descents. For those who love technical skiing, the route delivers narrow couloirs and steep north faces that will test your skills and create unforgettable memories. With a maximum of 4 participants, you’ll enjoy personalized guiding and an authentic mountain experience.
Alternative destinations (if conditions aren’t ideal, worry not): Central Switzerland, Berner Oberland, Vanoise, Piemont, and Prättigau.

Required skills:
– Proficient in backcountry skiing, have experience in different snow conditions and across diverse terrains
– Backcountry Preparation Clinic is mandatory before the trip
– Confidence in executing kick turns
– Experience with crampons and ice axe
– Excellent fitness and acclimatisation required
– Avalanche safety knowledge
– Resilience to winter alpinism and harsh conditions
Organisational details:
– Group size: 1 – 4 participants
– Accommodation: mountain huts (dormitory), half board
– Travel: your travel plans are individual and flexible, location can be reached by public transport
– Meeting in the evening before
– Guidance: led by an experienced IVBV / UIAGM mountain guide
– Duration: 5-6 days ski traverse
