Waterfall Ice Climbing

3–day course // Valais, Switzerland

Ice Climbing

Val d’Anniviers, Val d’Hérémence, or Mattertal
Dates: 30.01.–01.02. and on request

This course is ideal for anyone planning to climb the Matterhorn or other technical peaks.

Day 1: Ice Climbing Refresher
The first day is dedicated entirely to ice climbing at the waterfall. We review anchor building and practice the rope party flow: from belaying to clear communication. This includes planned retreat techniques: rappelling, lowering, and placing V-treads. We work intensively on technique, tactics, and mental strength to build a solid foundation for lead climbing and the days ahead.

Day 2: Introduction to Multipitch Ice Climbing
On the second day, we introduce multipitch ice climbing on longer waterfall routes. You’ll learn anchor building, rope management, line choice, and rope-team tactics. Throughout the day, you receive coaching and analysis to continually improve your technique, precision, and safety.

Day 3: Multipitch Ice Climbing
Day three, we put it all together on demanding multipitch routes. We consolidate what you’ve learned, refine your systems, and you’ll clearly see your progress. It’s the perfect opportunity to build confidence on longer, more committing terrain.
