The Gran Paradiso ski touring circuit (5-7 days) takes you deep into Gran Paradiso National Park, navigating glacier landscapes, steep couloirs, and varied alpine terrain. The crown jewel: summiting Gran Paradiso (4,061m) with its breathtaking ice fields and endless views.

The tour combines everything that makes ski mountaineering in the high alps special: skinning across glaciers, technical rope work, challenging descents through diverse terrain, and nights in traditional Italian refuges where the mountain culture is alive and well. Each day brings new landscapes and demanding transitions that keep you focused and engaged.

The route demands solid ski technique across all conditions, confident glacier travel, rappelling skills, and the fitness to handle consecutive long days at altitude. Expect technical passages, impressive descents, and the authentic experience of Italian mountain huts.

The ideal period for the Gran Paradiso ski touring circuit extends from mid-March to late May, depending on snow conditions:
March/April: Finest snow conditions, often powder snow, extended daylight
May: Corn snow conditions, longer days, warmer temperatures

Organisation:
– Duration: 5-7 days
– Group size: 1-4 persons (private guiding)
– Accommodation & meals: Mountain huts (overnight with half-board)
– Arrival/departure: Individual and flexible (parking available in Valnontey, return transfer from La Lillaz can be arranged)
– Guidance and leadership: Experienced IVBV/UIAGM mountain guide
– All technical equipment available for hire

Required skills:
– This ski touring circuit is designed for experienced ski tourers with alpine experience
– Ski technique: Confident skiing in all snow conditions and terrain types, including steep slopes to 40°
– Ascent technique: Kick-turn proficiency, ski crampon handling
– Fitness: Minimum 1,300m vertical ascent daily, extended stages up to 8 hours
– Alpine experience: Glacier experience, rope and ice axe handling, alpine route-finding
– Rappelling skills: Required for the rappel station at La Gran Serra
– The tour also demands mental strenght for consecutive days at altitude in variable conditions

Touring skis with skins, ski touring boots, poles, ski crampons, avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, first aid kit, light rope (min. 30m), prusik sling, ice screws, ice axe, crampons, ski touring clothing (layers), gloves, hat, sunglasses (Cat. 4), hut sleeping bag liner, headlamp, backpack 35-40l
